General Announcements @FMHighSchool:

  • The “It’s Time to Shine Art Show” is a local art competition that will be held at the Farmington Community Center (201 South 4th Street, Farmington, Iowa) this coming weekend.  The show will be open for viewing from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day.  Artwork from FMHS students will be displayed in the competition.The artwork will be judged on Sunday afternoon and ribbons awarded thereafter.  Please take some time and support your local artists at the event.
  • Fort Madison High School’s first ever “Pack in Pink” event will be held at the home football game on 10/20/17.   Pack in Pink is an effort to raise money during Breast Cancer Awareness month for the Susan G. Komen foundation, which specializes in breast cancer research.  Special “Pack in Pink” T-shirts will be available for purchase for $10 in the MPR  today through Thursday, and should be worn to the football game on 10/20/17.  For every shirt purchased, $3 will be donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation.
  • Fall hours begin this week in the library/media center.  The LMC will be open until 5:00 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  Feel free to stop in and work on projects or homework in the LMC or Makerspace.
  • Lifetouch will be on campus on Wednesday.  Teachers may have their pictures taken at 8:00 AM.  Students will be accepted after the Pledge of Allegiance.

FMHS Activities @FMHSActivities:

  • Good luck to football team this evening as they travel to Keokuk to take on the Chiefs.  The game has been moved up 30 minutes and will start at 7:00 PM.
  • Best of luck to the JV volleyball team as they take part in the HTC Invite tomorrow.
  • Good luck to the marching band tomorrow as they march in their state competition.

Volunteer Hours Available:

  • The FMMS PTO is looking for volunteers for their Fall Festival on Friday, 1/3/17.  Please contact Tenneille Speer at ktzspeer@hotmail.com with questions or to offer your time.

College Visits:

  • Monmouth College will have a representative in the MPR during B lunch on Tuesday.  If you would like to learn more about Monmouth College, please stop by their table during lunch and speak with their representative.


  • Happy birthday to Nicholas Carter.

This Day in History: 1792 – The cornerstone of what will become the White House is laid by President George Washington.

Fact of the Day: The White House was burned by the British during the War of 1812.  It was rebuilt and expanded during the 1820s.

Scaredy Cat: Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd president of the United States, was the first to have electricity in the White House, but never touched a lightswitch because he was afraid of being electrocuted.
