Word of the Day: Genocide – noun [jen-oh-side]
- The deliberate killing of a large group of people:
- Adolf Hitler was a tyrant guilty of genocide.
This Day in History: 1994 – Rwandan armed forces began a genocide in the country that would see nearly 1 million people massacred in the worst episode of ethnic genocide since World War II.
Fact of the Day: In the three months of genocide in Rwanda in 1994, nearly 75% of an ethnic population was murdered in Rwanda.
Quote of the Day:
Did You Know? Hall of Fame baseball player Ted Williams is the last man to hit .400 in a season. He is also one of the most decorated players of all time. What is astonishing about Ted Williams is that he interrupted his career twice to fight in American wars. He was a Navy pilot in World War II and a Marine pilot in the Korean War. At age 39, after returning from the Korean War, Ted Williams hit .388, becoming the oldest player to win a batting title.
