Congratulations should be extended to the Large Group Speech team for their terrific performances at the District Speech contest this past weekend. Jennifer Chamberlain Johnson, Hannah Scharpman, Lauren Schneider, Kaela Baker, Nick Bernhardt, Nakia Ross, Kelsey Vandenberg, Madie Shaver, Sally Johnstun, and John Peterman all received a Division 2 rating for an event that they were in.
Those students who received a Division 1 rating and will be advancing to state are: Nakia Ross, Megan Jordan, Cameron Medland, Jonny Specht, Sally Johnstun, John Peterman, Kaela Baker, Jennifer Chamberlain Johnson, Kelsey Vandenberg, and Maddie Shaver. Congratulations and good luck at State.
Student Government there is a meeting on Thursday, January 28th at 7:00 AM in the band room.
High School Seniors! Join the Test Kitchen for an afternoon of College Prep work! There is No School February 15th so take advantage of this free time to work on Scholarships, College Applications, and putting the finishing touches on your Financial Aide applications. The session will be from 3:30-5:30 with a light meal provided following. Students should bring scholarship applications, personal laptops if available, and any other materials they need to be productive! You do not have to have an application on file with the Test Kitchen only a limited number of students can attend. Sign up in the Guidance office TODAY!
Key Club needs your help! They are sponsoring a “Winter Clothing” drive to donate to the Fort Madison Food Pantry. Hats, gloves, and scarves can be placed in the donation boxes located around the school. (MPR, near the Bloodhound Statue out front, and outside the Guidance Office) Please donate and help those in need in our community!
Iowa Safe Schools is sponsoring a conference for students on April 29th in Des Moines. The mission of the Annual Iowa Governors Conference on LGBTQ Youth is to a) engage and educate students, educators, parents, community leaders, youth-serving professionals, policy makers, and others concerned about issues relevant to the LGBTQ community, and b) encourage networking and activism to inspire our communities to promote diversity, equality, and social justice. Mrs. Kohl would like to take a group of interested students, parents, and/or teachers to this conference. Please see her if you would like to sign up. Deadline to sign up is March 20th. The cost is $30 for students and $70 for adults. Scholarships are available for students to help cover that cost. We are looking for 16 students to help us design the 21st century classroom in the library as well as the Makerspace right next to the Media Center. You will be helping us pick out colors, furniture, technology, meet with vendors to compare products and prices and more.
