Key Club needs your help! They are sponsoring a “Winter Clothing” drive to donate to the Fort Madison Food Pantry. Starting Tuesday January 19th, hats, gloves, and scarves are to be placed in the donation boxes located around the school. (MPR, near the Bloodhound Statue out front, and outside the Guidance Office) Please donate and help those in need in our community!
Seniors is you are going to college in the fall will need to complete the FAFSA. On February 20th at the West Burlington campus from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, SCC will again be one of the 50 sites for Iowa “College Goal Sunday” (yes, these are Saturdays rather than Sundays). College Goal Sunday is a program in which volunteers provide free, on-site assistance to families in filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the federally required form for students seeking financial aid for college. Members of the SCC Financial Aid Office staff, along with a volunteer from Iowa College Access Network, will be helping families complete the FAFSA in a one-on-one setting. If you would like assistance with filing the FAFSA please plan on attending the event Saturday, February 20th, from 9 AM to 1 PM at the SCC West Burlington campus. The Business Law class is holding an auction this coming Friday, January 22nd during your lunch periods. We will be auctioning off Prom dresses at REALLY good prices! Look for posters throughout the hallways with pictures of the dresses!
Iowa Safe Schools is sponsoring a conference for students on April 29th in Des Moines. The mission of the Annual Iowa Governor’s Conference on LGBTQ Youth is to a) engage and educate students, educators, parents, community leaders, youth-serving professionals, policy makers, and others concerned about issues relevant to the LGBTQ community, and b) encourage networking and activism to inspire our communities to promote diversity, equality, and social justice. Mrs. Kohl would like to take a group of interested students, parents, and/or teachers to this conference. Please see her if you would like to sign up. Deadline to sign up is March 20th. The cost is $30 for students and $70 for adults. Scholarships are available for students to help cover that cost. Attention students, please check your email this week for for the link to participate in the Iowa Straw Poll. You will have until Friday at 3:30 to have your voice heard.
We are looking for 16 students to help us design the 21st century classroom in the library as well as the Makerspace right next to the Media Center. You will be helping us pick out colors, furniture, technology, meet with vendors to compare products and prices and more. If you are interested in helping us design these rooms please fill out the form in the text version of the announcements. We are looking for eight students for each room.
